Some of our favourites
Most of our favourite things are on our door step e.g in summer going up in the gondola and walking down, eating on the terrace of Le greppon Blanc when the sun is setting, having a quick (or slow) beer with the locals in Le Barloucâ or walking up to the amazing Les Caboulis www.caboulis.ch or just sitting on our balcony with the fire lit inside, listening to the silence and looking at that view and in winter Skiing without the queues.
In the summer you can hire mountain bikes, go up in the gondola and spend an hour coming down again or as we did walk down. It takes about 2 hours if you stop at both bars on the way!! If you want to explore Sion you can borrow a bike for the day if you go to Place de la Planta and leave your passport. Great fun!
Skiing in Veysonnaz is always a treat. Most people don't believe that there are NO QUEUES at the lifts and the views are breaktaking We always get 2 instructors Dede for 3 of us and Maria or Melanie for Molly. See the Ski school details to book a class or instructor. We hire our skis and boots from Fragniere Sports (the local guy) 15% reduction available here if you rent our apartment. We always get great service and equipment.
Le Barloucâ is the best bar in Veysonnaz according to Monique (she owns it) A great mix of locals and skiers. Good service, music and Craic!!
For familys who like to swim, when you want more than the local pool, you should consider the following
Sallion, thermal baths, only 30 minutes away, 3 pools outside and one inside. Nice gardens to sit in,easy to find. www.bainsdesaillon.ch
Brigerbad, the largest open air thermal baths in Switzerland with a river pool and 182mtr water slide. 50 mins drive. Worth a day out! www.brigerbad.ch .
Aquaparc at Le bouveret is a fun day out. It is 45 minutes from the apartment and about 10 minutes from the famous Montreux Some of the slides are a wee bit scarey. Have a look at their site www.aquaparc.ch
T his summer The Lake of Géronde in Sierre became a firm favourite for the kids, only 25 minutes from the apartment.
When you think of Montreux, most people think of the Jazz festival, and why not? It is a huge event with many top performers. Just less than an hours drive from the apartment it is well worth a visit. If you are looking good try to get a cocktail in Harrys bar, in Le Montreux Palace hotel, you never know who you will bump into!!
Another place for the children is Happyland, only 20mins drive away. In the summer this is a brilliant day out for all. Their Splash river is good fun, I was on it 15 times in one day. There are no queues. This is not a very big place but the kids love it. www.happylandnew.ch
For ladies who like to shop, drive or take the post bus into Sion, only 15 mins away. Great shops and a market on Friday mornings.Make sure you go for Raclette and a glass of wine at the market if you can get a seat.
Manor, which is a large department store, is one to look out for and has a great cafe on the ground floor. Plenty of high quality cafes and restaurants for lunch and for the wine lovers amongst you wine cellars to visit and sample the local produce eg Dole, Gamay,Johannisberg to name a few. www.lesvinsduvalais.ch will give you a list of the cellars (let us know your favourites)
We better not forget the Golfers. The closest club is in Sion only 20 minutes away and the most famous club is in Crans-Montana where the European tour comes every year, this is 18 hole, 71par and designed by Severiano Ballesteros. 45 min from our apartment. Darren Clarke, The Open Champion, will be in action here at the start of September http://www.golfcrans.ch.
